Simple Steps To Get The Smell Of Garlic Out Of A Cutting Board
01/19/2021
Garlic is one of the most popular herbs in the world because of the flavor it adds to meals. While we all love its spicy flavor, the lingering smell and taste can be a pain for everyone, including garlic lovers. If you’re sick of the funky odors on your cutting board and will like to get it out for good, here are some tips to help.
Know your material
All cutting boards don’t require the same type of cleaning since they are made of different materials. Generally, non-porous boards made of glass or marble don’t absorb odors, but the same cannot be said of wooden boards. If you own a wooden board, understand that it is likely to stink longer than other types of board, so you need to give it a spa-level treatment.
Ingredients
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- Warm water
- Scrub brush
- Soap
Directions
- If you are using a glass cutting board, just wash with soap and water, and you should be set. But if your cutting board is plastic or wooden, follow the other steps below.
- Wash the board with equal parts of vinegar and water
- Spread a generous amount of baking soda on all areas of your board and then follow with even more vinegar and water.
- Give the board a good scrub with your brush, rinse well, and let it dry.
- By now, the garlic smell should have reduced significantly but repeat the process until the odor is completely gone.
Wrap-up
Some people prefer to use lemon juice and vinegar to deodorize their cutting board, but the problem is that it barely masks the garlic odor. In fact, you may end up getting a lemony scent instead. The most active ingredient for deodorizing garlic smell is baking soda. Still, the best solution to a stinking cutting board is investing in an extra board that you can use for prepping garlic and onions.
